I was born in Jaén in 1950. I received a Law degree from the University of Granada and a diploma (DEI) in Political Sciences from the UNED. I worked as a labour lawyer. I have been a communist since I was young, and I was a university leader; I was arrested and imprisoned several times during the Franco’s dictatorship. Since the 1980s, I was a member of the direction of the PCE (Communist Party of Spain) and the co-founder of Izquierda Unida (United Left). I was the manager of the Marxist Research Foundation. In the 1990’s I specialized in Latin America, and I spent some time in different Central and South American countries. Author of several books, I am currently a political analyst and I collaborate with a number of Latin American, European and Spanish publications. I have three sons and two grandsons, all of them Andalusian.
