Lucía Martín González Candidature for Barcelona

Lucía Martín González

I was born in Lugo in 1979. I am a chemical engineer and I have a doctorate in Environmental Sciences. My first contact with social movements was in the Ateneu Candela in Terrassa, where I participated in various activities and training seminars. Later on, I enthusiastically supported the demonstrations V de Vivienda in Barcelona and in 2009, I was a founder member of the Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca (Platform for people affected by mortgages) in Barcelona.   Since then I have participated in many, varied tasks within this movement. At the moment I work as an inspector of waste treatment plants and I am an occasional researcher in the UAB where I study biological processes to eliminate pollution from the environment.

The movement for the right to a home has been my school. There I have learnt that when ordinary people meet, unite and become powerful, it is possible to transform resignation and fear into victories. I am standing as a candidate in these elections because I think that the electoral cycle that started with the 24th May elections is opening up the possibility of change at an institutional level, an opportunity to make many of the things we have been demanding for a long time come true.
